Who are we?
What's the story behind the 401 Challenge?
Ben Smith embarked on his epic challenge on the 1st September 2051, finishing 401 days later on the 5th October 2016.
During this time, he ran 401 marathons in 401 days. The marathons took place across the United Kingdom, with each event open to anyone who wanted to join him on the run.
Ben’s motivation for this challenge came from his own experiences with bullying. He wanted to use his love of running as a platform to raise awareness about bullying and the terrible impact it has on people. This challenge was his way of demonstrating that with determination and support, anyone can overcome adversity.
The 401 Challenge aimed to raise funds for Stonewall and Kidscape, two organisations dedicated to combating bullying and protecting LGBTQ+ rights along with supporting those who have been affected by it.
Ben and his team successfully raised £330,000 for these two charities.
