The USA 2020 Challenge: Journey to Wellbeing Educational is a set of FREE school resources developed by the Youth Sport Trust and The 401 Challenge that are centred around ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ theme as shown below and linked to The USA 2020 Challenge.
The ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ is a familiar model used by many different organisations including the NHS, Mental Health Foundations and Charities such as Mind. It says that if we can introduce the 5 elements; shown above, in to our daily lives our happiness will ultimately increase.
We have used The USA 2020 Challenge as the inspiration and created bespoke educational resources for each of these ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ which we are offering you FREE of charge.
For each of the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’, there are suggested activities that students and teachers can help organise – either in groups, classes or across the whole school. Through feedback and working with schools and educational professionals throughout the consultation stages of this programme, we are aware time is a huge factor when it comes to something like this. With this in mind our resources can be adapted to any timescale, so if you have 30 minutes, half an hour, a full day or feel this can be utilised across a school day/week/term, its flexible and it’s up to you how you use it.
As mentioned before we have created bespoke resources dependent on the type of school establishment as well:
Primary School: (inc Nursery and Early Years)
Teachers will be supported to deliver teacher-facilitated, class-based activities with resources designed to inspire and bring to life The USA 2020 Challenge while being intrinsically linked to the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’.
Secondary Schools: (inc College and 6th Form)
Young people will be encouraged to establish student-led Wellbeing Crews who will be empowered to lead the organisation of activities across their school. This helps drive leadership skills and allows them the autonomy to find creative solutions to issues their generation face in today’s society
Each school will receive weekly updates leading up to the challenge, then during the challenge from Ben himself. These videos and photos can be used in assemblies or workshop groups to really bring the challenge to life. Ben’s videos will show the ups and downs in a challenge like this, showing that even when things get tough, resilience and persistence are the answer, as achieving success in something no one else has ever done before is the true challenge.
This project isn’t about how good you are at sport, it’s about getting young people physically active, helping them find something that get them up and out, gets their heart beating. We believe that getting young people physically active has a profoundly positive affect on their mental wellbeing. With a programme like this one that links to a lot of the things you are probably already doing in your school, it’s not there to take over or change the way you teach, it’s there to give you resources to a real life project, bringing it to life and showing your young people that anything is possible if you just believe you can achieve it.
To request a FREE PDF brochure that showcase a few examples of the resources, either ring us on 01275 390556 or email us at email@example.com and one of our team will be more than happy to help.
When we launched The USA 2020 Challenge: Journey to Wellbeing Educational Programme back in October 2019, we initially linked fundraising with unlocking the different 5 Ways to Wellbeing. This has now been disabled therefore meaning you don’t need to fundraise to be involved in the programme, all the resources are FREE.
We will be running 2 fundraising competitions, one in April 2020 and one in June 2020 during National School Sport Week. If you choose to take part then that’s up to you. On the Journey to Wellbeing registration form there is a box that you can tick that says whether you would like to be part of the fundraising competition or not. If you tick yes, then we will send you a link to our Official Fundraising Partner, EtchRock so you can setup your page and start fundraising whenever you want to.
The prizes will be agreed prior to each fundraising day, what we will say is the more schools involved the better the prizes and these will be calculated on the money raised by each school on a per head basis (figures are associated with your URN code).
