MY TRAINING PLAN
I have been training for The USA Challenge on and off for around two years now. Until recently I didn't have professional guidance and was following my own plan, this was a struggle and wasn't quite working out, something needed to change!
As you can imagine taking on a challenge like The USA Challenge requires a lot more than just being fit and healthy. I found that while trying to run a business, develop a charity, plan and train for a global challenge, manage a 25hr a week part time job and find time for personal stuff all during the COVID-19 pandemic, was a struggle to say the least. I needed help and guidance, someone that understood what I was trying to achieve, whilst also having the experience themselves and well let's just say the 'out of the box thinking' mentality a challenge like this needs when it comes to training.
I took the decision to look for a coach that would help me manage my work, life, training balance.
The lead up to the start of the challenge in 2022 is as important as the challenge itself. Managing things like burnout, over training, injury, motivation as well as gaining valuable knowledge of how my body works and recovers is key to the success of The USA Challenge.
Since August 2021 Pav and I have been working together. Having a coach was a bit weird to start with as I was always in that mentality that I wasn't good enough to have a coach. I've learnt it's not about whether you are good enough, it's about what you are trying to achieve and what guidance and support you need at the time.
Pav has put together a structured, bespoke training programme that allows me to manage my work, life, triaining balance and will ensure I get to the start line of the USA Challenge ready to give it my best shot. Instead of me having to think about what I need to do and basing this on the limited knowledge I have, I rely on Pav to take on this responsibility.
